Quando os Pomeranos chegaram ao Brasil?

No ano de 1847, chegaram as primeiras 39 famílias que eram compostas por 26 luteranas e 13 católicas, a princípio eles iriam permanecer no sul do país. Logo, por conta de necessidade de mão de obra nas lavouras ficaram no estado do Espírito Santo onde crairam raízes devido ao seu clima ameno e montanhoso.

Então, o grupo de 163 recém-chegados ajudaram na fundação da colônia de Santa Isabel, este grupo de alemães que ficou conhecido como Pomeranos contribuíram para a melhoria de diversos segmentos de toda a região.

Quantos hectares de terra pertencia a cada família de Pomeranos?

No começo, as famílias receberam ajuda do governo e cada família contou com 50 hectares de terras, e também contavam com uma pequena ajuda de custo. Esta ajuda na verdade era um empréstimo que seria pago a um determinado prazo.

Depois de concluída a demarcação de terras, começou a ser construída a vila de casas, que era construída com barro e folhas de palmeiras. A princípio, havia uma grande dificuldade de adaptação por causa da distância entre as famílias, o perigo da mata e a comida totalmente diferente para os alemães.

Ainda existia a dificuldade de convivência entre os católicos e luteranos, pois, estes eram contrários a construção de uma igreja luterana na região. Mas mesmo assim, foi erguida a igreja Domingos Martins que foi a primeira do Brasil.

A partir de 1858, com a ajuda do ex-oficial Adalberto Jahn os problemas econômicos dos Pomeranos começaram a ser solucionados. Por conta da reorganização social e da criação de escolas, houve uma certa estabilidade social na região. 

Como contribuíram para o crescimento na região?

A partir da colônia de Santa Isabel, houve o surgimento de muitas outras colônias baseadas nas tradições dos Pomeranos. Nessas colônias era possível encontrar cidadãos de várias regiões da Alemanha, veja abaixo alguns deles:

• Prússia;
• Saxônia;
• Hessen;
• Baden;
• Baviera.

Toda a região foi tomada por costumes europeus, além de alemães outros povos aproveitaram a oportunidade para melhorar de vida no Brasil, como por exemplo, luxemburgueses, austríacos do Tirol, holandeses e suíços.

As famílias conseguiram se acostumar com o clima ameno da região que proporcionou uma boa colheita praticamente o ano inteiro. A imigração permaneceu até o ano de 1879, quando já havia cerca de 7 mil descendentes vivendo na região.

Somente no estado do Espírito Santo, podemos encontrar cerca de 250 mil. O Espírito Santo também é conhecido como a maior Pomerânia Brasileira. Na Europa, a Pomerânia verdadeira abrange as regiões do Mar Báltico e da Polônia.
